Admission Requirements
Each Lamar University Academic Partnerships degree program has specific requirements that you must meet in order to enroll. Please read the admission guidelines for the program in which you are interested. For specific questions or more details, view our admission FAQs.
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences
- Complete online application. A one-time application fee of $25 will be assessed with the first course tuition.
- Official transcripts from all schools attended. Official transcripts are sent from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
- Verify specific requirements associated with chosen degree program
High school graduates who have not attended college before are considered entering freshmen – even if they received college credit while in high school through dual credit, AP or IB programs. Transfer students with fewer than 18 hours of college credit also must meet admission requirements for entering freshmen.
Incoming freshmen must do three things to qualify for unconditional admission to Lamar University:
- Receive a diploma from an accredited high school
- Complete at least 14 high school credits in college preparatory courses: 4 credits in English, 3 credits in mathematics, 2 credits in laboratory sciences, 2.5 credits in social sciences (U.S. history, U.S. government, and world history or world geography) and 2.5 credits in college preparatory electives (preferably including 2 credits of foreign language)
- Graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class or achieve a minimum composite score on the SAT or ACT
Applicants for the BAAS program through Lamar University Academic Partnerships must meet the university's standard requirements for admission and one of the following criteria:
- Have earned previous college credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for all previous work completed in higher education OR
- Be a high school graduate of at least 5 years OR
- Be an active or retired service member with 3 or more years of military service
Applicants are responsible for assembling and submitting the official documents that will verify the above criteria are met, including sealed transcripts from all previous colleges and/or universities attended.
Note to active or retired military personnel: Credit may be granted for military experience. Credit will be evaluated based upon the evaluation recommendations outlined in the American Council on Education (ACE) Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services manual. Applicants must submit one of the following documents: Form DD214, Form DD256 or proof of Active Military Service.

Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN)
Applicants for the RN to BSN program through Lamar University Academic Partnerships must meet the university's standard requirements for admission, as well as the following:
- Admission to the Nursing Program
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Current unencumbered licensure to practice professional nursing (required prior to taking practicum courses)
M.Ed. in Educational Administration
- Complete online application. A one-time application fee of $25 will be assessed with the first course tuition.
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended*
- Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (cumulative or last 60 hours)
- The departments in the College of Education and Human Development agree that new students in all programs beginning September 1, 2011 will be able to take 9 credit hours prior to full program admission with appropriate GRE scores if required (Please see appropriate department admission policy to determine this). By the end of December 2011, the necessary statistical analysis will be available to make responsible conversions and to determine appropriate admission formulas.
The College encourages all applicants to take the test as early as possible. The new scoring compresses the reporting matrix and according to ETS presents a more test-taker friendly design.

- Students with a 3.0 or above GPA for undergraduate studies or a 3.0 or above during the last 60 hours of undergraduate studies are not required to submit a score on the GRE.
- Students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 must meet the GRE requirement, as outlined below:
GRE Taken before August 2011:
Undergraduate GPA (or last 60 hours, whichever is higher) x 200 + (verbal + quantitative GRE score) = at least 1350.
GRE taken after August 2011:
Must meet the institutional GRE and GPA standard according to the formula (GPA X 50) + (verbal [min 146]) + quantitative ([min 144] GRE score) = or greater than 428. The GPA used in the formula may be either the overall or the last 60 semester hours, whichever is higher.
M.Ed. in Educational Technology Leadership
- Complete online application. A one-time application fee of $25 will be assessed with the first course tuition.

- Teachers wishing to apply for the Principal Certification must have proof of teacher certification.

Master of Science in Criminal Justice
- A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in criminal justice, criminology, sociology or the equivalent. Students with undergraduate degrees in other field but with substantial work experience in criminal/juvenile justice may be admitted with special approval. Those without substantial work experience and with undergraduate degrees in other field may be admitted after taking specified undergraduate courses.
- Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores according to the formula (GPA x 200) = (GRE V=Q is greater than or equal to 1350.
- Satisfactory completion of at least one statistics course and one social science research course.
Applicants who do not meet all admission requirements may enter as Pre Graduate, pending full admission to the program. Under Pre Graduate status, the student must make up all deficiencies and earn at least a "B" average. No more than 6 hours of graduate credit may be earned prior to full admission.
Students may transfer in up to 6 hours of approved courses for this degree.

Readmission for Former Students
Former Lamar students who have not been in attendance for one or more regular semesters (fall or spring) must file for readmission by updating their admission application through www.applytexas.org. Update your application by logging into your Apply Texas account, choose your Lamar University Application, update your new entry term and resubmit.
Students who left on suspension must receive written clearance from the Dean of their academic college to be eligible for readmission.
Former students who have attended another college are required to submit official transcripts of all work done subsequent to the last date of attendance at Lamar University, and to meet the academic requirements for other transfer students. The regular application for admission must be submitted.
