What to expect from an online Master of Education program

In the fast-paced, ever-changing world of education, technology stands front and center as something that all educators must use and know. With a master’s in educational technology, an educator will be prepared to face that ever-changing world, while teaching their students using the latest techniques and integrating new instruction into the classroom.

Millions of students are using technology to complete assessments, collaborate with others around the world, research new possibilities and generate hypotheses. As a classroom teacher, you must be prepared to educate and motivate these students using technological tools with which they are already familiar. The modern learner needs an educator that has stayed up-to-date with the changing technology needs, and a master of educational technology leadership can give a teacher the technology background that he or she needs.

Classes and structure

Teachers who enroll in online graduate courses can expect to use technology as a main classroom tool. Students will be expected to submit work and view classwork all via the web while also communicating and collaborating with other students. Students should be prepared to use a variety of tools from email to message boards to video conferencing. Each online program will use some sort of classroom management delivery system and as a student, you will use this every time you access your class.

With the master’s in educational technology leadership, a student will still have basic online graduate courses such as school law and human resource management. School law provides an overview of relevant state and federal education laws, while human resource management prepares the teacher to understand the basic principles of personnel management in accordance with school goals. In addition to these standard Master of Education courses, students will also take courses specific to technology when enrolled in the education technology leadership program.

The master’s degree in educational technology prepares teachers to be campus leaders for today’s tech-savvy students. With the M. Ed. in Educational Technology Leadership, students can choose to be classroom teachers, campus technology coaches, campus facilitators and more.
