Matching Classroom Learning With Necessary Business Skills

Today’s students are growing up in a 21st-century global society that forces them to know highly sophisticated media and be familiar with multiple computer environments. Used well, technology can help students learn faster and more efficiently. Teachers must learn to adapt old ways of teaching to make digital technology more of an integral part in the learning process.

As an educator, it is important to match students with skills for a 21st-century global society. Students who have a strong technology background have been found to be more prepared for the business world, having enhanced their problem-solving, higher-level thinking, creativity and collaboration skills.

How Do We Help Our Students?

Earning a master’s degree in educational technology is a great way to help students gain necessary business skills. Facilitating learning through technology will help the students develop college readiness, real-world problem-solving skills, and communication and collaboration with their peers.

As an educator, it is essential to have a set of goals and purpose behind classroom lessons that will instill and teach real-life business skills. With the master’s degree in educational technology, teachers will have the knowledge to create these purposeful lessons that can and will teach technology to our 21st-century students. Not only will the teacher be prepared to teach their students, they will also have the knowledge to educate and provide professional development to other teachers. Those teachers will then have the knowledge to teach those necessary workplace skills.

Three of the most desirable skills needed and valued in today’s global marketplace are problem-solving, teamwork and communication. Our job as teachers and technology innovators is to make technology easy to use and understand by bringing it into the everyday classroom and making it a basic way of life for students.

In order to reach our digital native students, we have to be technology advocates and stay up-to-date on emerging technology as much as possible. A master’s degree in educational technology is the first step in being prepared to teach tomorrow’s leaders.
