Texas State University System

The Texas State University System (TSUS), founded in 1911, was the first higher education system in Texas. Today, it serves 81,000 students, and it has the lowest average tuition of any university system in Texas.

Benefits of Going to a TSUS School

TSUS is one of the fastest growing of the 52 university systems in the United States. Over the past 10 years, degree production in TSUS has grown by 24 percent. One of the benefits of attending a state school (particularly in your own state) is that tuition is typically more affordable than it is at private institutions.

State schools receive partial funding from state and federal governments, whereas private schools do not. TSUS is known for its effective use of these funds. In the last five years, TSUS has seen an increase in full-time students that has put the university budget ahead of its support costs.

Lamar University

Lamar University is the third largest of eight universities in the TSUS. The other universities in the system are Sam Houston State University, Sul Ross State University, Texas State University, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College in Orange, Lamar State College in Port Arthur and Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. Lamar was founded in 1923 and offers a wide array of graduate and undergraduate degrees.

LU serves more than 14,000 students, and because people with busy schedules, families and long commutes don’t always have access to traditional educational opportunities, one out of every three credit hours at Lamar University is in an online course. According to the mission statement, Lamar is “Internationally recognized for its high quality academics, innovative curriculum, diverse student population, accessibility and leading edge scholarly activities dedicated to transforming the communities of Southeast Texas and beyond.”

Lamar University Online

Online classes offer many opportunities to earn graduate and undergraduate degrees as well as certificates. Online classes provide the flexibility that many people need when balancing career and personal responsibilities while going back to school. Lamar’s online programs ensure that distance is not an issue by making excellent education accessible from any location.

In addition, Lamar University’s programs make education affordable. Online degrees are available in education, nursing, business, criminal justice, technology and liberal arts.

Lamar University students can expect a quality, affordable education online that can create opportunities for career advancement.
