  • Why did you start teaching?

    It's always been a desire of mine since I was a child. Right now I have the best of both worlds - working with the students of Lamar University and working in Student Affairs developing programs that support learning. It's an awesome combination.

  • What's the best advice that you ever received?

    Best advice might be to always listen to the voice in your heart, fight to be your authentic self!

  • What's the best advice that you could give your students?

    You made an awesome choice in choosing Lamar University to continue your education. I know that balancing work, family and coursework can be challenging, but continue to push through. It will provide dividends that will make positive impact to both your family legacy and the community. What more can you ask for!

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    The Shack by William P. Young.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in counseling?

    Self-reflection, openness to various views, strong writing skills and commitment to the profession.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

    Cultural shifts in society that impact your need to stay current with techniques that support the needs of the clients and in touch with yourself.

  • Tell us something that your students may not know about you.

    In my spare time I love to cuddle up with a good movie - dramas are my favorite. When I can, I love to travel. I just had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas and see a few historic sites. Working hard and trying to balance that with enjoying the world.
