Graduation
Lamar University confers degrees 3 times a year, in May, August and December, and
offers graduation ceremonies in each of those months. It is possible you will complete
your degree requirements prior to the conferral and graduation date. If so, your
degree will be conferred at the next available graduation.
Graduation Information
Graduate Programs
If you are completing coursework for the M.Ed. degree, you must apply for graduation
and pay the graduation fees, even if you are not attending the graduation ceremony.
Both the application and the fees are required in order to receive your degree and
have it conferred on your transcript.

* Students must complete 36 hours of coursework by this date. This includes
completing the internship class.
Undergraduate Programs
If you are completing coursework for the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree,
the Bachelor of General Studies, or the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
degree, you must apply for graduation and pay the graduation fees, even if you are
not attending the graduation ceremony. Both the application and the fees are required
in order to receive your degree and have it conferred on your transcript.

All students are required to apply for graduation and submit graduation fees. The
application and graduation fee is due regardless of intent to participate in the
graduation ceremony. For students not participating in the graduation ceremony,
diplomas will be mailed within the first business week following commencement. Please
ensure your correct mailing address is on file.
Please note: your diploma will be printed with your name as it
appears in our system. In order to change your name, we must receive a copy of your
social security card showing your new name. You can fax it to us at 409-880-7429.
A high volume of emails are received during the timeframe allotted for graduation
applications. About 1,300 students submit applications during this time, and the
inbox fills up quickly. Please check your email to make sure your message did not
bounce back to your account. You will receive a "Received" response to your application
once it is processed. Please check your mylamar account and pay the graduation fees
once they are posted.
To apply for graduation, please download and complete the Late Graduation Application Form and email it to
lugradstudies@lamar.edu.
The graduation application form is made available when graduation opens up for
the next ceremony. Please check the Important Graduation Dates calendar
above for when the next graduation will take place.
The fees are as follows:
- Diploma: $24.45
- Additional diploma: $10.60 (if requesting more than one)
Caps and gowns must be purchased or rented at the bookstore at least six weeks prior to graduation day.
All students are required to apply for graduation and submit graduation fees. The

you may pick up your diploma in the Wimberly building starting the Monday after
graduation or your diploma can be mailed to you within the first business week following
commencement. Please ensure your correct mailing address is on your graduation application.
Please note: Your "Official Name", as entered in our system, will
be used for graduation unless an Official Name Change is processed by the payment
deadline. Name changes are not required on adding/deleting middle names or adding/deleting
maiden names. If you choose to do so, please indicate this information on your graduation
application. If you would like a different name than what is in our system, we must
receive a copy of your social security card showing your new name. You can fax these
requests to Attn: Ashley Glenn at 409-880-8369.
To apply for graduation, please email Ms. Ashley Glenn, Undergraduate Graduation
Coordinator, for the Undergraduate Graduation Application at
Ashley.Glenn@lamar.edu. Save it as a .doc document and email it back to
Ms. Glenn by the deadline noted above.
The fees are as follows:

Graduation Attire
Lamar University tradition requires all degree candidates participating in the graduation
ceremony to wear appropriate academic regalia (cap, gown, and hood).
- Mortarboard tassels must be worn to the right side of the cap.
- No cell phones are allowed in the processional line or on stage.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- Doctoral and master's students must wear hoods with Lamar University School colors.
Name Cards
Degree candidates will pick up their name cards before lining up in the procession.
These will be used by the announcer to read names as students cross the stage.
Guests
No tickets are required for guests of the graduates.
Announcements
Personalized announcements may be ordered through the bookstore.
Diplomas
Students will return in a procession to the assembly rooms to pick up diplomas following
the ceremony. For those not attending the ceremony, your diploma will be mailed
within the first business week following commencement. Please ensure your correct
mailing address is on file.
Photographer
For your convenience, Lamar University has arranged for professional photography
during the graduation ceremony. Photographs will be made available to graduates
and their families at reasonable prices. After graduation, the photographer will
email a proof to the email listed on your graduation application.
If you need a letter verifying completion of your degree, please send your request
to recordsluacademicpartnerships@lamar.edu.
Do not request this letter until all grades required for your degree have posted.
