Program: Bachelor of General Studies
Start Date: August 2016
Anticipated Graduation Date: June 2020
My name is Kaitlyn and I prefer to go by Katie, but I will answer to “hey you” and pretty much anything else. I’m in my second semester at Lamar University online. Currently I’m doing courses for a bachelor’s degree in General Studies. When I’m not doing school work, I’m a full-time medical assistant and a full-time mom of a four year old. It’s easy to say I’ve got my hands full, but I’ve learned to balance my life through prioritizing what is immediate to what can be pushed to a later time in the day. Right now, the general studies degree is helping finish out credits I need to move toward nursing school. Having four years of customer service experience and three years of medical experience really helps me navigate the crazy world we live in and all the crazy personalities.
Since I am a parent and work full-time, in-person schooling is impossible. My sister told me about Lamar University online. I chose Lamar since 1) it’s online, and 2) my sister is also taking courses there and she was able to answer any questions I had, within reason. Lamar University has been really good to me so far; every question has been answered quickly and the teachers are amazing. I’ve found myself doing homework up until 4 a.m. then going to work at 8 a.m. so I’m lucky if I get any sleep on top of having a four year old. Not going to lie, working full-time and being a full-time parent is hard. Throwing full-time school on top makes for one tired Mama, but it’s so worth it, and I absolutely love going to LU-Online. Go Cardinals!

Classes started August 28th and I’ve hit the ground running. Since I work 40 hours a week, I have to budget my time wisely. I checked my blackboard account (this is your main connection to your instructors and class) and saw I already have three discussion assignments due by this Friday.
