College of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences includes the Departments of Applied Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Psychology as well as the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice. The largest and most inclusive academic unit college within the university, the College of Arts and Sciences contributes significantly to the cultural and academic characteristics that distinguishes Lamar University as a Member of the Texas State University System. The College of Arts and Sciences is also home to the nationally ranked JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing.

The Master of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and program certificates in nursing at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, are accredited through 2025 by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The Lamar University JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. (The Texas Board of Nursing does not review master’s programs.)

Lamar University’s College of Business is committed to being an integral part of the business community. Its primary goal is to ensure that all programs continue to serve the evolving and dynamic business marketplace in Southeast Texas, the whole state, across the country and around the world. In addition to a deeply committed and experienced faculty who teach 80 percent of our sections, the College of Business also boasts an impressive network of accomplished business alumni who provide students with valuable ongoing support throughout their professional lives.

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International)

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Fewer than 5% of the world’s 13,000 business programs have earned AACSB Accreditation. AACSB-accredited schools produce graduates that are highly skilled and more desirable to employers than other non-accredited schools.

College of Education and Human Development

Offering programs in educator preparation, school and clinical mental health counseling and a host of other lifestyle-oriented disciplines, the College of Education and Human Development is a community in which students and graduates engage with public schools and community businesses and organizations to directly impact public school performance and learning, school and community health, and business and public service agency activities.

National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)

Lamar University’s M.Ed. in Administration, M.Ed. in Counseling and Development – Prof. School Counseling, and Program Certificate in Principal Education are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

College of Fine Arts and Communication

The College of Fine Arts and Communication offers graduate and undergraduate programs in the fine and performing arts as well as programs in speech and hearing sciences, deaf studies, deaf education and communication.
