Career Highlights:

I have been in nursing for 45 years. I graduated from a Diploma Program in 1975, received at Bachelor of Arts in Nursing in 1979, received a master’s in nursing in 1983, a second master’s degree in 2001 in Nursing Administration and a Ph.D. in Nursing Science in 2013. I have worked predominantly in the Maternal-Child areas, but I also have experience in Medical-Surgical, community, leadership, management and critical care nursing.

  • Which classes do you teach online?

    I currently teach master’s level courses of Evidence-Based Project I and II, Nursing Theories, Planning and Organizing Healthcare Delivery and Directing and Controlling in Healthcare.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I really enjoy working with students and new nurses to help them grow and develop their knowledge and skills in nursing. Having such a varied background, I have been able to share many stories and experiences that help the students to better understand concepts they are learning in classes.

  • What's the best advice that you have ever received?

    Nursing is a profession of lifelong learning. Never stop learning.

  • What’s the best advice you could give your students?

    Always treat your patients like they are close member of your immediate family.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    “Who moved my Cheese?” by Dr. Spencer Johnson.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in nursing?

    Being personable, caring, nurturing, a teacher, feel a calling to the profession and love to learn and share knowledge of healthcare with others.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in nursing face today?

    Constant and continuous change is inevitable.

  • How do you see online learning affecting the future of education?

    Online learning is the way of the future. Nursing is just a little more complicated because it involves the care of people and you have to develop certain skills that cannot always be cultured virtually.
