Why did you start teaching?
To be part of helping nursing students see all life has value, no matter the age or practice setting, and that patients deserve the nurse who studied in nursing school.
What's the best advice that you have ever received?
"If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember what you said." Quote from my wonderful Daddy.
What's the best advice that you could give your students?
Use these courses to improve your patient's outcome, not just to get them completed for your degree.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
Anything that allows you to see another point of view and be in someone else’s world for a bit—whether historical fiction from a different period of time, a history book or a memoir.
What qualities make someone particularly successful in nursing?
Caring and the ability to see another’s point of view.
What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in nursing face today?
More expectations with less resources.
How do you see online learning affecting the future of education?
Online learning can present information in a unique way, allowing students time to synthesize and apply the information. However, whether in a traditional face-to-face environment or online, the outcome you get depends totally on the student’s willingness to learn and participate.
