Career Highlights:

I have 35 years of experience in the administrative field, including lobbying work for 10 years in Washington, DC, prior to working full-time as a professional counselor. Also, I was able to present my dissertation research at the 2015 ACES Conference. I have been in ministry for 20+ years, and the Pastor of a non-denominational church for 14 years.

  • Which classes do you teach online?

    Measurement and Assessment, Individual Counseling Theory Technique, Counseling Credentialing, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Developmental Guidance Counseling, Human Growth Development, Intro to School Counseling, Career Counseling.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I love reading, history, science and knowledge. However, I love sharing knowledge more than anything else. My friends would tease me about sharing all the things I read about, and would complain about it. I now have the perfect platform to share. More importantly, I believe I can make a difference in the lives of my students.

  • What's the best advice that you have ever received?

    Dr. Carl Sheperis told me at the beginning of my Ph.D. program that I did not have to do it. He explained that I made a choice to pursue higher education because it was something I wanted to do. I also worked for a great attorney named Elliott P. Laws, Esq.; he told me every time I started a degree to make sure I finished. I now finish what I start, and I aim high.

  • What's the best advice that you could give your students?

    Relax, stay calm, communicate with your professors and don't over think the simple things.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in mental health counseling?

    Empathy, compassion, honesty, integrity and loyalty to the field.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

    The biggest challenge for people in the counseling field today is burnout due to lack of self-care. Counselors do so much for others and often forget to take care of themselves.

  • Tell us something your students may not know about you:

    My son and I travel to different states in the quest for good food and great roller coasters. We have been known to take weekend trips just to try a new roller coaster or a hole-in-the-wall food place. I always wanted him to see life as an adventure, and this was one way to do it when he was young. He loves it now, and it gives us a chance to bond.
