Career Highlights:

I entered the U.S. Army as a Private and retired as an Army Nurse Corp Officer with the rank of Major. I have since taught nursing at El Paso Community College and the Texas Tech University Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing. I was the director of nursing programs at Anamarc College and Vista College before returning to teaching at the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing at Lamar University.

    I have a passion for teaching others.

  • What is the best advice that you could give your students?

    Capitalize on your strengths, but exercise at least as much diligence improving on your weaknesses.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    The Bible.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in nursing?

    Nursing is being happy to do for someone what most people are not even willing to do for someone.

  • What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in nursing face today?

    Shorter hospital stays and increased documentation requirements have decreased the time that nurses have to spend with their patients.

  • How do you see online learning affecting the future of education?

    Online learning reduces barriers to education, especially for working students or those that are geographically challenged. That said, it comes with challenges, some of which are not as obvious as others.
