Key steps for admission to your online master’s degree in Professional Accounting
The online M.S. in Professional Accounting degree program has specific requirements that applicants must meet to enroll. Please read the admission guidelines to ensure you qualify.
The M.S. in Professional Accounting is designed for students majoring in accounting at Lamar University or other accredited colleges or universities as well as students who did not major in accounting. Students who received an accounting degree from an accredited college or university can complete the program in 30 hours, whereas students who obtained a business degree from an accredited university can complete the program in as little as 45 hours. For students without any previous undergraduate study in business who want to become CPA-exam ready, the Lamar University M.S. in Professional Accounting degree may be completed in as few as 72 credit hours.
Typically, students without a business background will take five accounting prerequisite courses including ACCT 2301 Introduction to Financial Accounting (with a "B" or better), the nine business leveling courses and the 10 courses required by the M.S. in Professional Accounting.
Students do not need to be admitted into the M.S. in Professional Accounting program to take the accounting prerequisite and business leveling courses.
Applicants must meet the following standards:
*All applicants must submit official transcript(s) indicating: 1) The conferred bachelor's or master's degree as required for the program of application from a regionally accredited US institution or its equivalent. 2) The transcript of the most recent attendance if it differs from the institution of the conferred degree. This requirement applies regardless of the length of time in attendance and regardless of whether credit was earned or is desired. However, if a department or program wishes to review additional transcripts from prior attendance for decision purposes, the department or program may directly request the applicant to submit the official transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions for processing. Students must be eligible to re-enter all colleges and universities previously attended. Failure to disclose previous college attendance is justification for revocation of acceptance and dismissal from Lamar University.
