Your credentials matter when you walk into a potential employer’s office. If your bachelor’s degree in business administration is from an unaccredited school, you’ll have a smaller pool of job opportunities to choose from because some employers will not consider graduates of programs that lack accreditation.
Making sure your college is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) should be the first step in selecting an online program for your BBA. Many universities offer classes online but they are not all accredited. Online BBA programs from universities accredited by the AACSB bring not only recognition from employers but specific skills for the student as well.
Accredited Colleges Are Better for the Employer and the Student
To be AACSB-accredited, a university must be certified to grant degrees in its home country. Then, the college must partner with the AACSB to develop a plan to meet accreditation standards. Once those standards are in place, a review team will look to see if all the standards have been met. If they have, the program is referred to an accreditation committee and the AACSB Board of Directors. The AACSB then grants accreditation for five years. If the school has not met the standards set forth, it must return for further development before it can satisfy AACSB criteria.
Fewer than 800 colleges worldwide are able to meet AACSB’s standards. AACSB demands written policies on ethics, corporate responsibility, diversity and governance. It evaluates interactions between students and faculty and requires that any university offering a business degree have at least 50 percent of its program classes in traditional business subjects.
With AACSB Certification, Your Degree Carries Weight with Potential Employers
BBA programs by AACSB-certified universities will offer classes such as accounting, economics and human resource management. Principles of finance, marketing and management information systems will usually also be part of the curriculum, and students will participate in practical scenarios. Public policy, business law and business communications are generally part of a core course list as well.
Businesses carefully evaluate potential candidates for employment, and they look at online higher education very closely. Those who have degrees from schools accredited by a nationally recognized organization will have a distinct advantage over those with degrees from non-accredited schools. If you choose an accredited school, it shows potential employers your discernment regarding academic standards. In the end, selection of an AACSB-approved school becomes a win-win situation for both the employer and the student.
