Become a Leader in Educational Technology

In today’s modern world, a successful educator must stay up-to-date with ever-changing classroom technology. Teachers and educators are expected to be continuous learners to stay ahead of the changing education field. Modeling technology for our students and teachers is essential to gain buy-in and participation when using it in lessons.

By earning a master’s degree in educational technology, an educator will learn to be more organized, better prepared for leadership roles, assess students’ learning styles more effectively, provide professional development to teachers and help integrate technology into the classroom.

Leadership on the campus level

At the campus level, an educator with a master’s degree in educational technology can be an asset in many ways. Having completed the degree coursework, the teacher will be prepared to help colleagues learn to use various technology in their classrooms.

An educator with a master’s degree in educational technology will have a greater grasp on varying styles of learning and be able to incorporate those differences into their lesson plans. Because each person has a unique learning style, it is important to stay abreast of changes so that teaching can be adjusted accordingly.

As an educational technology leader on campus, it is also vital to make technology as readily available as possible. With the access to technology, both teachers and students have access to instant information, digital communication and digital presentations that can have a global reach. The technology leader should also model use of technology and encourage administration to do the same. Teachers are much more likely to grasp a new idea if they see someone they respect and admire using the tools successfully. Smooth integration of technology is key in gaining buy-in with teachers.

Typically with the introduction of technology into the classroom, students and teachers alike are much more engaged in the lessons. Students and teachers that normally wouldn’t speak out are now less timid and willing to participate.

The access that technology provides to our 21st-century students is immeasurable, with things such as instant information and collaboration at their fingertips. Just as our students are changing, so is the field of education. As educators, we must also be willing to adjust and amend when necessary.
